Morning rituals of successful people

by Caroline Wellingham | Mar 2, 2016 | Life Coaching
For a while I have been thinking that there must be a better way of starting my morning. So instead of rolling out of bed, throwing some clothes on and sleepily starting the day, I thought I would investigate the morning rituals of successful people. I am going to find out how they start their day and what tips can I take from their morning routines.

For a while I have been thinking that there must be a better way of starting my morning. So instead of rolling out of bed, throwing some clothes on and sleepily starting the day, I thought I would investigate the morning rituals of successful people. I am going to find out how they start their day and what tips can I take from their morning routines.
From my research I have been able to see what Oprah Winfrey, Michelle and Barack Obama, Richard Branson and Mark Zuckerberg, to name but a few, do in the morning. I have detailed the themes and top tips below.

The top tips for morning rituals of successful people were as follows:

Meditation: Numerous studies have shown that meditation helps relieve stress and helps you to be mindful about how you spend your time. On top of that, it has a lot of health benefits and it boosts your happiness levels. Therefore, the advice is that you should spend at least five to ten minutes per day sitting in stillness and peace. This will make you feel more grounded, in tune with yourself and feel more mindful throughout the day. The benefits of this are that it will lead to better decision making, more productivity and happiness. Oprah meditates two times per day for 20 minutes. YouTube offer guided meditation which can help when you are new to meditation. I find it to be a very calming and relaxing thing to do in the morning, and it is definitely part of my new morning routine.

Exercise: Exercise helps the body wake up in the morning. Performing 20 minutes of high intensity interval training is a great start to the day. However, you can also practice yoga or go for a run, you will feel like you have achieved before you have even started your “proper” day.

Waking Up Early: Waking up at 5am or earlier is popular with successful people. They wake up early to make sure that they have plenty of time to complete lots of their tasks before they start their day. I think this would only work if I went to bed at 9pm and was still able to get 8 hours sleep.

Personal Development: Successful people get motivated in the morning by reading books, listening to podcasts, watching inspirational videos e.g. TED talks. This will ensure that you are raring to go in the morning and ready to kick ass.

Healthy Food: Healthy food provides energy and gets the mind and body ready for the day.

What is the morning power hour?

This concept is championed by American life coach Tony Robbins, a man whose following includes Hugh Jackman, Serena Williams and Bill Clinton. It is the idea that if you get the first 60 minutes of the day right, only good things will follow.

There are five pillars to the “Power Hour”:

1. Leap gladly from your bed the moment you wake up

2. Do some contemplative breathing (meditation focusing on your breathing)

3. Do some exercise

4. Create and repeat incantations to guide you through your day (he suggests: ‘All the love I need is within me now’).

5. Give thanks

I think there are some great tips in here that are worth trying. Good luck.
