For whatever the reason it can be very unsettling to be at a career crossroads in your life. Whether you have been made redundant, hate your job or are just itching to move on to whatever is next. Perhaps you had a career plan that you started along the path of years ago and now you have realised that it is not what you want anymore.

For whatever the reason it can be very unsettling to be at a career crossroads in your life. Whether you have been made redundant, hate your job or are just itching to move on to whatever is next. Perhaps you had a career plan that you started along the path of years ago and now you have realised that it is not what you want anymore.

For whatever the reason it can be very unsettling to be at a career crossroads in your life. Whether you have been made redundant, hate your job or are just itching to move on to whatever is next. Perhaps you had a career plan that you started along the path of years ago and now you have realised that it is not what you want anymore.
What should You do when you are at a career crossroads?
Goal Setting
There is substantial research that proves that people who set long term goals have more perseverance, stronger focus and greater success. However, many of us no longer want the same goals we wanted ten years ago. Never let your goals become a straight jacket that you have to rigidly stick to if they are not making you happy. Don’t miss out on what your life is calling you to do in the moment. Leave room in your life for unexpected doors to open.
Identify Your True Passions
Visualise your ideal job and ask yourself the question “What do I really want out of life?” Understand what is stopping you. Think about what your fears are and what you are scared of? What are your belief systems that might be holding you back?
Look at what excites you. Think big and visualise your ideal day. Going through these questions will help you to fine tune your focus moving forward.
Take Your Time
Don’t leap into a new career and change in an instant. When you take time, you have a powerful opportunity to take stock of everything going on. This will enable you the time to analyse your options, think about who can help you and also what potential obstacles might get in your way and how you can overcome them.
Moving Forward
Understand yourself and put your fears into perspective. Learn to be patient. Be open to new possibilities. Learn to share your career dreams with others, you never know, they could help you. People like to help people achieve their goals.
