When you’re in your comfort zone you feel safe and in control. However, the magic really happens outside of your comfort zone. Moving outside of your comfort zone involves pushing yourself to do things you wouldn’t normally do.

When you are in your growth zone you are actively working on finding your purpose and living your dreams by setting yourself new goals and objectives.

This article will provide ten top tips to help you to move from your comfort zone to your growth zone.

  1. Visualisation exercise: Close your eyes, take a deep breath. Ask yourself this question “what is the one thing I want to do but I am currently holding myself back from doing?” What comes to mind? It could be a course, an event, a meet up, a program. Whatever came to your mind, write it down, investigate it and then do it.
  2. Hire a coach: If you have wanted to do something for a long time but nothing is changing in your life then hire a coach. Pushing people outside of their comfort zone is part of their job description.
  3. Try something new every week: Write yourself a list of all the things you have ever wanted to do. Pick one item every week and do it. Every time you push yourself to do something different, you are moving into your growth zone.
  4. Write down all the possible outcomes: If there is something that you have always wanted to do, but it never seems to happen, then write down all possible outcomes. Write down all the positives and the negatives. Often when you write out all possible outcomes, it can often remove some of the fear. You can also write down what you would do for each of the negative outcome. This tactic involves preparing yourself in advance.
  5. Act as if: Act as if you are comfortable and then just do it – fake it. Here is a link to a TED talk about faking it until you make it >> Amy Cuddy TED talk.
  6. Don’t wait: Stop waiting around for stuff to happen. Make it happen. You only have one life, stop procrastinating and just do it. Take action. Nothing will change in your life if you don’t do anything differently.
  7. Start small: Start off by doing something small
  8. Accountability buddy: Ask a friend to help you. Better still find someone who wants to push themselves as well then hold each other accountable. Having the support and encouragement of a friend cannot be underestimated.
  9. Change your look: How long have you had your hairstyle for? How long have you done your make up in the same way? How long have you been wearing the same clothes? Time to do something to push you outside of your comfort zone. Book an appointment at the hairdressers. Book a makeover. Book in with a clothes stylist. It is all about doing things that you wouldn’t normally do.
  10. Make new friends: Meet people who are not in your current circle. Expand your network. Check out events and meet ups on meetup.com Eventbrite. Meet some new professional people on the Shapr app.
